Hey there. My name is Daniel Dessinger, (formerly @danielthepoet), aka the Daddypotamus. I’m husband to Heather, father of two incredible children, and instigator of my wife’s blog, Mommypotamus.com.
Professionally, I’m the SEO / SEM Account Manager for a digital agency in downtown Fort Worth. I’ve managed clients on the agency side since 2005. I own a marketing strategy blog called Purposeweb.com. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English from DBU, with the intent on writing a book. I let myself get sidetracked by family and vocation, but I’m coming back around to it.
I’m also author of the RenewMyMind blog, which chronicles some of my spiritual pursuits.
What the heck is a Daddypotamus?
When I think of the word “Daddypotamus”, my mind pictures awesome imagery of warmth, cuddliness, ferocity, and patient layin’ in the weeds. That’s me.
God is up to something in this family. It began with a Sandra Boynton book: But Not the Hippopotamus. From that cherished story, the Mommypotamus blog was born. Four months after that (though I hardly ever blogged), Daddypotamus came into being.
God is birthing a compassionate, unassuming approach in us toward our community. There is an intentional embrace that is not indifferent as the world is indifferent, but rather this embrace sees the heart of the person and the calling of God in his/her life as infinitely more important than current behavior, political views, or appearances.
In 1 Corinthians 4:15, Paul writes:
Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.
Isn’t that the truth. Not many fathers. Throughout the earth, even here in DFW, there are not many fathers in the faith. Plenty of “guardians.” But not many men who will embrace the younger generation and lift them up to see both a vision of the cross and the power of the resurrection at the same time.
A Few Random Facts

Fact #2 > I enjoy talking to God and hearing His voice. Listening is a discipline I will forever work on cultivating.
Fact #3 > I am a people watcher. I notice things most people don’t notice.
Fact #4 > I may or may not blog here more than once a week. Life’s too short.
